SISTAR On SBS Inkigayo Magazine

SISTAR (씨스타, also stylized as SI★, SiSTAR) is a four-member South Korean girl group under the management of Starship Entertainment. The four members are: Hyorin, Bora, Soyu & Dasom. Their group name is a combination of the words "Sister" and "Star", meaning they are meant to be sisters in the entertainment business and become big stars.

Pre-Debut

Leader Hyorin had auditioned twice for JYP Entertainment beforehand, being accepted on the second try. She was initially planned to debut in a trio group along with missA's Min and Secret's Jieun. Plans, however, fell and she was dropped from the label. She later auditioned for Starship and was accepted.

Member Soyu auditioned for Starship, singing a cover of Navi's "On The Road". She was noted for being a "bagel girl" - a term used in Korea to describe a girl with a "baby face" and "glamorous body".

SISTAR made their first appearance through a Céci magazine photo in England shoot on March 19, 2010 for the clothing company FUBU. A representative for FUBU stated "We thought that SISTAR would fit very well in the FUBU brand’s hip hop concept. They fit very well with our visuals of street fashion." Starship Entertainment described SISTAR as a girl group who "...has skill and style with their eccentric music, choreography, and fashion", and said they will "...create a new culture code as they will be a style icon to the age range of 10-20".

SISTAR wrapped up their final rounds of "How Dare You" promotions in mid-January.

On April 27th, it was announced that SISTAR will be debuting their first sub-unit, SISTAR19, composed of members Bora and Hyorin. The 19 was used to represent the girls maturing into women, as well as the innocence of being 19. However, there is some debate as to what the 19 really meant - comments included "what if the 19 means it's rated R?" and others.

SISTAR19 released their MV Teaser on April 29, 2011 and the music video on May 2, 2011. They will be releasing their digital single, titled "Ma Boy", on May 3rd.
